Gorgeous fog and a nice walk

I thought that it was not going to be a particularly pretty day in the park.  It was quite foggy, sort of chilly, it had rained earlier....... but I suited up and headed up to the meeting point.  I got a bit of a late start so I had to walk fast - what a mistake!  The park was ~~gorgeous~~ in the fog in the late morning light.  I was so sad that I had to walk fast, I wanted an hour or so to just wander around and take some gorgeous scenic pictures.  It felt like moving through a movie landscape, dripping with romance and drama.  I was surprised not to see people shooting.

Anyway, the robin's nest by the meeting point has chicks!  I see two beaks in this picture.  They are not in the cute stage yet.  They are more in the "...what ...what is that ~thing~?!?!" stage.

There were again several yellow-rumped warblers.  This one came right over!  I love it when they get friendly.

We did not see as many woodpeckers today as usual.  This yellow-bellied sapsucker and a couple of red-bellied woodpeckers were it.

A hermit thrush allowed a picture, the wood thrushes did not.  I really wanted this to be a Swainson's.

This female cardinal came over closer and closer, she really seemed like she wanted to land on one of us.  I'm guessing she's been fed..........

This great crested flycatcher was a treat!  He was in a high treetop near the feeders, many thanks to the person who pointed it out to our group.  And to David for pointing out that I had mislabeled this bird so that I could correct it - check out his blog!

We saw several (okay, 4) eastern towhees, they generally don't like pictures but they are just so handsome.

And a beehive!  I checked where the beehive was last year (2 years ago?) and it was not there.  But when we were leaving that area I noticed all the bee activity at this hole, so maybe they just moved!  Well I have no idea whether it's the same bees or not, but it looks like there is a hive there.  It turned out to be quite a nice walk!

  1. Thanks so much for your posts Jennifer. I had emergency surgery about a week after I last saw you and am now recuperating and slowly gaining my energy back. Your photos make me feel as though I have not missed so much and I really appreciate that. Great Work, Eileen
