We saw a bat!

What a gorgeous day!  As soon as we entered the park a couple of red-bellied woodpeckers were flying around, this one showed us its red belly.  It seem like just a tiny bit of a stretch to me.......

By the bridge over the upper lobe we saw this Eastern phoebe, it flew around for us for a bit.  The camera did not want to focus on the bird.  Frustrating!

There were white-throated sparrows everywhere, with lots of singing and calling!  Some of them looked a bit scruffy, but this one was gorgeous.

It was a day filled with sapsuckers.  They were everywhere!

A ruby-crowned kinglet, my first one this spring.  My eyes are not used to tiny flitting birds yet.

We saw several brown creepers, this one was right next to us, eye level, just gorgeous!

This hermit thrush led me on a merry chase, and when Paul brought the group around to see it, it just flew back the way we had just come!  Hahahahahaha, well played, hermit thrush.  :-)

Over to the feeders, where there was quite a bit of activity.  I enjoyed seeing this red-bellied woodpecker and the red-winged blackbird settle out who has priority and when to take turns.

My favorite thing of the day - there was a bat flying around at the feeders!!!!!

Yes, yes, the pictures are terrible.  But it was a bat!  Flying around!  They are ~not~ easy to take pictures of.  What a treat!  :-)

Okay, back to normal bird walks.  We also saw several downy woodpeckers.  It was actually a lot of woodpeckers today!

Did I mention that we saw plenty of woodpeckers?  THis red-bellied woodpecker was quite busy, it looks like it might be hollowing out a nest cavity.  I hope so!  :-)
